What's the difference between music and sound? The children came to the following conclusions:
If there is singing it is music
If it's too loud it is not music
Drums all by themselves can be music too and so is the rainmaker- because they are fun to play
Then we listened to music that the children were familiar with and played along. I wondered if they were making music or sound. They saw no difference between their music and the music that was playing - Matthew even said that "its like twins." Then we all sang together, "Are You Sleeping Brother John" and accompanied our singing with instruments of their choice. Was this music, I wondered aloud? The children agreed, except one, that decided that it was still too loud, with hands clasped over his ears.
