Last week the children practiced telling, retelling and creating their own colourful sand stories. This week, we are exploring how totem poles tell stories. We started by reading Totem Tale: a tall story from Alaska by Deb Vanasse. In this story, the grizzly, beaver, raven come alive on a full moon night in Alaska and they discover that they must reassemble themselves in proper order before morning.
The children decorated their own totem poles, retelling their stories, in preparation for their project over the next few weeks.
