Water Cycle in Action: part 2

Water Cycle in a Bag
After playing the water cycle board game with the children, we made water cycle bags for each child.  Food colouring was added to the water so that when the water evaporates and condenses on the side, the children predict what colour the water on the sides of the bag is going to be.   We also marked the water level and left room in the bag for the water cycle (evaporation, condensation, precipitation) to happen. The next step is to hang the bags on the windows and watch the water cycle happen.  Evaporation occurs when you see water droplets on the side of the bag.

Children, why do you think the droplets are clear and not blue?
Because the blue wasn't really the water

Yes!  The blue dye was left behind in the evaporation and condensation process.  This means that water cycle purifies the water, that is why the blue food colouring is left at the bottom of the bag.

Orin took on the responsibility or recording the predictions:  How many people think that the water droplets  are blue?

I was attempting to put my display up when Jeffery asked to hold the sun.  All of a sudden he started acting like "a strong strong sun with lots of power."  The others followed his lead.  In spontaneity, there is freedom-- freedom not to think, to sound smart, to get it right, or to receive approval.  it is the freedom to express what wants to be expressed in any given moment.  I hope the sun within the children stays burning and yearning forever.
